1526 Continuing Education Fund

Overview:

To increase the effectiveness of the Library services to the public, the Library and the Union agreed to establish a mechanism to allow employees to further their education as well as provide an avenue for professional development and advancement.  Any AFSCME Local 1526 member taking a course at an accredited College, University or other program approved by the committee is eligible to receive funds towards the cost of tuition. The Continuing Education Fund may enable you to receive funds per Fiscal Year to pay for costs of approved courses including tuition and fees.

Courses must be related to an employee’s present position or increase their qualifications for another position within the bargaining unit.

If necessary, members are encouraged to seek approval for a flexible schedule in advance of applying for the funds.  Approval of the benefit does not guarantee a flexible schedule.
Members will receive one-half reimbursement upon showing receipt of registration of a course or may attend New Horizons with a voucher.  The Committee may extend the voucher system to other accredited organizations/institutions.  The Committee may authorize full payment up front for approved courses.

Eligibility

You are currently a member in good standing of AFSCME, Local 1526 and have been for at least one (1) year

Reimbursement

The Fund may authorize full or partial payment up front and reimbursement for a course will be approved with a grade of “2.0” or better, a “C” or better, or a “Pass” grade (if the course is only offered on a “Pass/Fail” basis), depending on the school’s grading method.
